Brief Introduction:

The Department of chemistry, Mizoram University opened in August 2006 with the aim of providing advanced/useful Post Graduate (PG) degree program in chemistry. The specializations are being offered in all the branches of chemistry viz., Physical, Inorganic, Organic and Analytical Chemistry and the courses designed(core + major electives + minor electives) are in line with the UGC recommendations. Some of the courses offered (specially major and minor electives) by the department are useful/interesting to the students of other departments also as they provide job-oriented nature to these courses. The present intake of PG students is 20 but it will be increased to 32 when infra-structural facilities are developed further.

In addition to its PG program, the department has started the Ph.D. program in December 2007. A central instrumental facility (like Analytical Services Laboratory, Environmental Chemistry Laboratory etc.) will be created soon, for use by other departments of this university and other institutions of the region.

All possible efforts are being made to develop this department as a state-of-the-art facilities centre in chemical/physical sciences in the North-East region.
