About the Department:
The department of Political Science came into being in 2002 with 3 Guest Lecturers. Over a period of fifteen (15) years, the department has grown with a full-fledged faculty of seven (7) regular teachers (1 HAG Professor, 2 Professors and 4 Assistant Professors). The department has grown into a leading one in the school of social sciences with more than one hundred students and research scholars on its rolls. Further, it has developedits hard infrastructure of furnished class rooms with projectors and computers, besidesthe Internet facility which are accessible to the students and research scholars.

Aims/Objective/Vision:
The department is aimed at providing requisite academic inputs and skills to the students and research scholars so that they could emerge successful in their career and life once they complete their courses. Further, the department ensures regular mentoring of its students and scholars so as to face the competitive examinations at the state and national levels.

Research Areas/Overview:
As part of raising the quality of research output, the departmental research committee has always monitored the research of both MPhil and PhD scholars on a regular basis. The scholars have been encouraged to undertake research in multi-disciplinary areas of State politics, Northeast studies, Indian government and politics, International relations among others. Incidentally, some of the faculties have also undertaken certain research projects in the similar areas. While their research output has been published in certain reputed journals and books, some of the research reports have been used by the academicians and policy makers in the state and elsewhere.

Important Information: The department expects its new and current students to have attended to all the class room and seminar programmes as per the prescribed schedules. They willbe motivated to avail the computer and internet facilities on all the days in every week. Besides, the student-parent-teacher interfaces will be organized in the department so that proper feedback was elicited from all the stakeholders of the department. As part of mentoring and counseling, the students will be encouraged to interact with the concerned mentor as well as the HoD every week.
