 DEPARTMENTS

 Botany

Brief Introduction:

The Department began in the year 2003 with a four semester M.Sc. program. From the year 2007 the department has its permanent faculty, with approved sanction strength of six. The Department also supports academically the B.Tech (Information Technology) program of the University.

A four semester M.Sc program is being conducted by the department, with approved student strength  of 15, with a good student-teacher ratio to enable personal attention to all students. The Department also provides Ph.D program in the fields of Theoretical and Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, Computational Physics.

The research activities of the Department are funded by DST through FIST. Some of the faculty members have individual projects with agencies such as DST, CSIR, Naval Research Board etc, adding to the research profile of the department.

M.Sc  program has a sanctioned strength of 15. This is a four semester program with specializations in the second year in the fields of Condensed Matter/Computational Physics/Advanced Electronics. The first batch of M.Sc students have graduated in 2005 and are well placed in different educational institutions. Admissions to the program are made once a year, at the beginning of the academic year.

Ph.D program has about ten students enrolled with various faculty members and are pursuing the research programs in the fields of Theoretical and Experimental Condensed Matter Physics. Admissions to the program are made at the beginning of each semester

Facilities Available

Through funding from DST(FIST) and through personal projects of the faculty members from other funding agencies such as NRB, CSIR, some of the equipments that are being procured by the Department include Ultrasonic interferometers, Raman Effect setup, Microwave Trainers, Fiber Optic trainers, Refractometers and experimental set up for  Photoconductivity measurements, Surface Contact Goniometer and Impedance analyzer. The Department also possesses good computational facilities with a computer lab and softwares for study of photoconductivity, electronic band structures and molecular conformations.
