UNCTAD-DFID-GOI sponsored Summer School in
Mizoram University |

1. |
Department of Economics, Mizoram University(MZU) organised Summer School
on Modeling of Issues of Trade, Development and Globalisation, sponsored
by UNCTAD-DFID-GOI., under Project on Strategies and Preparedness for
Trade and Globalisation, from 6th May to 2nd June
2008, covering 28 days. The Governor of Mizoram inaugurated the
Programme on 6th May, 2008 at the University Campus, Tanhril. |

The
project seeks to strengthen human and institutional capacity for
enhancing trade related research amongst universities and individual
researchers and also develop network of universities and individual
researchers to undertake quality research on trade, WTO and
Globalisation, providing basic inputs to the government. Mizoram
University is one of the four universities in country selected by UNCTAD
India Programme, to implement the Project. |

The
Summer School, one of the activities under the Project, focused on trade
issues under multilateral trading system and empirical methodology for
doing trade related research. Participants, 25 in all, include 4
university teachers, 12 college teachers and 9 research scholars.
Participants are from Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam/Meghalaya &
Mizoram. Faculty members from Management and Commerce Department under
MZU, Mizoram Civil Service Probationers who are currently undergoing
training programme, state officials from Planning, Trade & Commerce,
Agriculture also participated. |

resource persons were drawn from Planning Commission, Ministry of
Commerce, Ministry of Finance (GOI), UNCTAD India, Centad, ICRIER, IIT
(G), CDS, universities etc.and 2 from the University itself. |

5. |
Participants undertake
research project under the programme. Two preliminary sessions were held
under expert guidance. |
|

| |
6. |
Mechanism for
evaluation of the entire programme and its contents, resource persons,
and participants has been introduced. |
